ABOUT US
Step back in time and experience the rich history of Route 66 at the Barstow Mother Road Museum, located in the historic Harvey House. Explore fascinating exhibits and artifacts that bring to life the golden age of American road travel and the iconic highway’s cultural impact.
The Motherroad Museum is situated in the Historic Harvey House in Barstow, California. The entire property, artifactual in its own right, was built in 1911 as part of the Fred Harvey Company, offering food and lodging to travelers on the Santa Fe Railroad.
It became a key stop on Route 66 before the construction of the freeway system and the decline of rail travel.
After opening in 2000, inside the former Harvey House, the Route 66 Mother Road Museum closed its doors in June of 2024. Fortunately a small group of investors and historians dedicated to preserving the legacy of the iconic highway decided to re-open the Museum March 22nd, 2025.
The museum now showcases exhibits that highlight the significance in the development of Route 66 and its role in the transformation of transportation in the United States.
